Hidden Valley Cabins and Tours has completed in-house audits following the guideline set down by Climate Friendly to reduce carbon emissions. After reducing our carbon based emissions Hidden Valley Cabins & Tours purchased carbon credits to offset the rest of the operational activities to make Hidden Valley Cabins and Tours the first resort and tour business combined in Australia to be Carbon Neutral. Eco-Tourism
Ecotourism is defined as "... ecologically sustainable tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas that fosters environmental and cultural understanding, appreciation and conservation".
Tourism operators in Australia who have their tour, attraction or accommodation accredited under Ecotourism Australia's Eco Certification Program can genuinely claim to provide authentic ecotourism product.
Hidden Valley Cabins & Tours are an outstanding example of genuine Ecotourism and have been certified as an Advanced Ecotourism operation - the highest level of certification - by Ecotourism Australia. |

Solar power
Hidden Valley Cabins & Tours is 100% solar powered saving 78 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. This is Australia's 1st stand alone system for a tourism resort with no support from grid power. Please click HERE to learn more information on our system.
Power conservation
Hidden Valley Cabins has replaced conventional light bulbs with energy-saving compact fluorescent, has reduced our power consumption from 2220 watts to an amazingly low 430 watts. This results in 18 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved every year (calculated by Rainbow Power, Nimbin).
Waste management
We minimize waste by composting food and paper products for use in gardens. We are currently researching worm farms for use in waste management.
Education
Hidden Valley Cabins actively educate our guests and the public on the importance of protecting the environment in order to protect vulnerable species such as the Northern Bettong. We work closely with The Australian Wildlife Conservancy. During check-in, all guests are informed on power conservation and our renewable energy system. We have also built an interpretive centre for guests to learn about our solar system at their leisure.
Walking tracks
The tracks are very low impact and are maintained for aesthetics, ease of access and designed to prevent of erosion.
Recycling
Hidden Valley Cabins recycles all aluminum cans, cardboard, papers etc…
Accreditations & Committees
We have received advanced eco-tourism accreditation through Eco-tourism Australia. We are active members of Eco-Tourism Sub-Committee at Townsville Enterprise.
Native Plants
Trees and vegetation planted around the resort are mostly native to blend into the natural landscape and encourage the birds and animals to visit the resort.
Buildings
Hidden Valley Cabins was designed to blend in with the natural environment. Majority of timber used at the resort is recycled, all furniture is hand crafted from local timber and buildings were designed to blend into the natural environment therefore reducing our environmental footprint.
